About this trip

Transform your life, deepen your practice, and immerse yourself in an unforgettable journey on the beautiful island of Isla Mujeres with Kootenay Yoga School.

Whether your goal is to become a yoga teacher, strengthen your personal practice, explore yogic philosophy, or simply reconnect with yourself, you will be welcomed into a supportive and nurturing community designed to help you grow. We believe yoga is for everybody and every body, and we meet students exactly where they are, guiding them forward with encouragement, compassion, and care.

Throughout this immersive 200-hour Yoga Alliance–accredited training, you'll gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead safe, meaningful, and inspiring classes while discovering your own authentic voice as a practitioner and teacher. Students leave with a strong understanding of traditional postures, sequencing, anatomy, philosophy, meditation, and the art of holding space for others.

More than just a certification, this training is an opportunity to step away from the demands of everyday life and fully immerse yourself in the practice. Together, we'll explore movement, meditation, mindfulness, yogic philosophy, and conscious living while surrounded by the turquoise waters, healing energy, and rich culture of Isla Mujeres.

You'll have the opportunity to practice teaching in a supportive environment, connect with like-minded students from around the world, and experience firsthand how yoga extends far beyond the mat. Through community, self-inquiry, laughter, challenge, and transformation, many students discover a deeper sense of purpose, confidence, and connection.

Join us for this life-changing 15-day immersion and leave not only with an internationally recognized certification, but with lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, and a deeper relationship with yourself and the practice of yoga.

What we will cover

Our 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training on Isla Mujeres is designed to be so much more than a certification course. Together, we will explore the physical, philosophical, energetic, and spiritual dimensions of yoga in a supportive and welcoming environment. Our curriculum blends traditional yogic teachings with modern understanding, allowing students to build a strong foundation for both personal practice and teaching.

By the end of the program, students leave with an internationally recognized Yoga Alliance certification, a strong personal practice, lifelong friendships, and the confidence to teach safe, inspiring, and meaningful yoga classes anywhere in the world.

What's special about this program

What makes our Isla Mujeres Yoga Teacher Training truly special is that it is designed to feel immersive, not intensive. While you'll receive a full 200 hours of Yoga Alliance–accredited education, we believe learning happens best when students feel inspired, supported, and connected—not rushed or overwhelmed.

Our days are thoughtfully balanced with yoga practice, philosophy, anatomy, workshops, meditation, community connection, and plenty of opportunities to rest, reflect, and soak in the beauty of island life. From sunrise meditations overlooking the Caribbean Sea to meaningful conversations by the pool, every aspect of the experience is designed to help students embody the teachings rather than simply memorize them.

Isla Mujeres itself plays a powerful role in the journey. Known as the Island of Women and historically dedicated to the Mayan goddess Ixchel, the island has long been regarded as a place of healing, reflection, and transformation. Our center is located just minutes from Punta Sur and the ancient healing grounds associated with Ixchel, allowing us to weave local traditions, ceremonies, and cultural experiences into the training in a meaningful and respectful way.

Our teaching team is made up of passionate wellness professionals, experienced educators, and lifelong students of the practice who are dedicated to creating a learning environment that feels engaging, supportive, and fun. We believe some of the deepest learning happens through experience, connection, curiosity, and laughter.

Students stay on a lush tropical property surrounded by palm trees, colorful gardens, and the relaxed rhythm of island life. Three nourishing, home-cooked meals are served daily, thoughtfully prepared with fresh ingredients and inspired by local flavors whenever possible.

Most importantly, our training is about so much more than becoming a yoga teacher. It is an opportunity to deepen your relationship with yourself, connect with a community of like-minded students from around the world, explore the rich traditions of yoga, and return home with not only a certification, but a renewed sense of purpose, confidence, and connection.

Risks And Dangers To Consider

While we aim to maintain a tranquil and healthy environment for our students, there are various risks associated with travel and participation.  Risks can include, but are not limited to :

1.  Injury in participation - While we guide our students through safe techniques, it is not impossible to suffer an injury while participating in  this program.  We must insist that students maintain medical insurance adequate for travel and potential out of country medical care.

2.  Dehydration - The school will provide unlimited filtered drinking water, and tea.  It is important to listen to your body and keep your consumption of fluid up.  Students will find they need to drink substantially more water, and often add in electrolytes.

3.  Dangers off-site and in transit - Isla Mujeres is known throughout Mexico and the Caribbean as a safe and tranquil location to vacation and explore.  With that said, there are dangers in any community.  Kootenay Yoga School is not responsible for any accident on or off the school property.  We ask that students explore with caution, enjoy the island with a friend or two, and use careful judgement around off-site activities.

4.  Covid - Although the island has traditionally had very low cases of covid, there is still the risk of contracting this while in the program or in transit.  We insist that students notify us immediately if they have any symptoms of illness.  In the case that symptoms align with those of Covid 19, students will be required to take a test and isolate.  Kootenay Yoga School is not responsible for costs associated with this, but will assist students in completing the program or making up missed educational hours where possible.

5.  Mosquito illness - Isla Mujeres has had cases and seasons where various mosquito illnesses are present.  These illnesses can include Zika, Chikungunya, and most commonly Denque Fever.  While these illnesses are often not serious, in some cases they are.  We ask that students research the risks and speak with their trusted medical professional should they have questions specific to the risk associated with these illnesses.  Kootenay Yoga School will maintain a regular spray schedule at the school, and will provide supplementary mosquito repelling products - but in general students are responsible for supplying these things.  Kootenay Yoga School is not responsible for medical care ore expenses associated with a mosquito illness.  Here are a few excellent sites to learn more about theses risks:
